A series of social, environmental, health and infrastructure initiatives in Salinas, Minas Gerais, were delivered between 17 and 19 October reflecting the company’s social commitment to the region.
Partnerships that transform: health and infrastructure
Surgical equipment, including an X-ray machine, to the Municipal Hospital was donated by PLS to support the delivery of healthcare in Salinas.
The Mayor of Salinas, Kinca Dias, commented on the importance of the partnership between PLS and the municipality in strengthening the local health network.
Thanks to this donation, we will be able to perform all orthopaedic surgeries here, without having to refer patients to other cities.

In addition to the health equipment, PLS also signed a cooperation agreement for the donation of a 40-hectare area where the new municipal landfill will be implemented — an important step for waste management and the improvement of local infrastructure
The Mayor said the donation of the area for the new landfill is an essential step for the municipality to properly manage the city’s solid waste.
“The partnership with PLS has been fundamental, and we remain confident that, together, we are building a better future for Salinas.”
"These deliveries represent a joint commitment between PLS and the public authorities, focused on the wellbeing of the population and the sustainable future of Salinas,” said Marisa César, PLS Brasil Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability.
Education, connectivity and the local economy
On Saturday, 18 October, the Nova Fátima community celebrated the inauguration of the new childcare centre, which will serve families in the region, and the 4G connectivity tower built by PLS to ensure access to quality internet. The celebration brought together residents, entrepreneurs and company employees in a festive setting with food stalls, children’s activities and cultural performances.
During the event, the Nova Fátima Residents’ Association honoured the PLS team with a plaque of appreciation, a gesture that symbolises the trust and recognition of the initiatives developed in the community.
Job creation and training
Sunday, 19 October, began with the delivery of the revitalised flour processing facility and another 4G tower in the rural community of Canela D’Ema. According to Milton Reis, Secretary of Economic Development and President of the local association, the expectation is that the new structure will generate around 300 jobs.
“And it is not only about flour: we will also produce by-products here and encourage cooperativism, turning this initiative into the first cooperative in our region. Our commitment is to add value to local production — processing here what is harvested in the field and taking it to the municipal market, with more income and dignity for producers,” said Milton Reis.
PLS Brasil Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Marisa César, explained that the reactivation of the flour processing facility was born from the desire to create opportunities for people living in rural areas, for families who prefer to remain in their communities and do not need to leave the countryside in search of work.
“This project strengthens the local economy and improves the quality of life of many people.”
PLS also announced, in partnership with FIEMG/Jequitinhonha Valley Regional Office, the offer of new professional training courses acquired through the SESI System, expanding opportunities for training in areas such as welding and mechanics.
“This is how, through cooperation between the private sector, public authorities and educational institutions, we are able to generate sustainable development and transform the reality of the Jequitinhonha Valley,” José Balbino Maia Figueiredo, Vice-President of FIEMG.
PLS Brasil’s initiatives in Salinas demonstrate the Company’s commitment to sustainable development, the appreciation of local communities and the strengthening of partnerships with public authorities.
The activities are part of the company’s Social and Environmental Development Plan (PDSA), reinforcing PLS’s commitment to contributing to sustainable development and strengthening ties with communities in the Jequitinhonha Valley.
